Phototransfers on fabric
29.7cm x 21cm each
2019
Part of a body of work titled 'Drawings by Light’, this series of works focus on drawings that touch upon notions of what was, being and becoming. In this series Mahmood captures natural light and its ephemeral manifestations on different surfaces. The images evoke parallels to the rituals and routines that constitute life on a daily basis; that leave no physical residue, impressions or marks. The process of image-making takes form in phototransfers on a select set of surfaces. With this technique, the image is situated between two very thin films, making the attempt to reclaim a moment from the past requiring an acceptance of the blisters and blemishes that will surface during the process of the image’s recreation, rendering it unattainable, like a memory.
